Architecture

This project is all about drawing, analyzing, and creating floor plans. Students first have to measure the size of their homes so they will have an idea about square footage. Doing this helps students to form a relationship between rooms and room sizes as most of them have not really thought about this before.

Then the fun begins- students must create their own dream house but stay within 3500 square feet. After looking at several different floor plans, students develop their own. We discuss many aspects about floor plans such as: flow, room layout, room connections, public  vs. private living spaces and room sizes.

Once students have created a nice floor plan, they then re-create using Autodesk Home Syler This program allows the student to receive some hands on computer application and load items such as: furniture, beds, stairs, bathtubs, toilets, and many other items. After this step, the student prints out the drafting and then uses it to construct a model.
